Being and BeenSome writers occasionally confuse the words being and been. As a rule, the word been is always used after have (in any form, e.g., has, had, will have); whereas, being is never used after have. Being is used after to be (in any form, e.g., is, was, were).Examples: (being cannot follow has or have) Being as a NounThe word being can also be a noun.Examples: Being as a GerundThe word being can also be a gerund (which is a type of noun).Examples: |
THEY'RE PARTICIPLES
Being is the present participle of the verb to be. (For comparison, cooking is the present participle of the verb to cook.) Been is the past participle of the verb to be. (For comparison, cooked is the past participle of the verb to cook.) Usually participles can be used as adjectives before nouns, but being and been can't. Past participles (e.g., deleted, broken) and present participle (e.g., cooking, running) can be used like adjectives. However, even although been and being are participles, they are not used as adjectives before nouns. (What does this mean? The car that used to be a car? This is nonsense.) (The tree that is a tree? This is nonsense.) Been is always used in conjunction with the verb to have, which is its auxiliary verb. The auxiliary verb for being, on the other hand, is the verb to be(e.g., is, are, was). (Remember, been goes with has.) However, being can act as an adjective before a noun (or a pronoun) when it is joined by other words to form a participle phrase. (Being such a lazy oaf is a participle phrase that describes Tony.) |

The Difference Between Been And Being
8yr old Yemeni childbride dies of internal injuries after sex with 40yr old groom
An eight-year-old child bride has
died in Yemen of internal bleeding sustained during her wedding night
after being forced to marry a man five times her age, activists have
claimed.
The girl, identified only as Rawan, died in the tribal area of Hardh in northwestern Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia. Activists are now calling for the groom, who is believed to be around 40 years old, and her family to be arrested so they can face justice in the courts.
They say arrests would help put a stop to the practice of marrying very young girls to older men in the impoverished region.
Angry Man, a blogger, posted that the man was 'an animal who deserved to be punished severely for his crime'.
'All those who supported such a crime should also be punished,' he added.
Another blogger, called Omar, wrote: 'Rawan’s family members are not humans. They do not deserve to have children.'
But another blogger, called 'Sad', appeared more sympathetic to the custom. He wrote: 'Her family and her groom could have waited for some time before having this marriage,' Sad said. 'It was not fair at all and the marriage should not have happened even if some tribes believe that it is a good custom.'
The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen and has attracted the attention of international rights groups seeking to pressure the government to outlaw child marriages.
Yemen's gripping poverty plays a role in hindering efforts to stamp out the practice, as poor families find themselves unable to say no to 'bride-prices' that can be hundreds of dollars for their daughters.
More than a quarter of Yemen's females marry before age 15, according to a report in 2010 by the Social Affairs Ministry.
Tribal custom also plays a role, including the belief that a young bride can be shaped into an obedient wife, bear more children and be kept away from temptation.
In September 2010, a 12-year-old Yemeni child-bride died after struggling for three days in labour to give birth, a local human rights organisation said.
Yemen once set 15 as the minimum age for marriage, but parliament annulled that law in the 1990s, saying parents should decide when a daughter marries.

CAN Hails JTF For Tackling Boko Haram
The
Christian Association of Nigeria has hailed the military Joint Task
Force for clamping down on the Boko Haram sect and reducing its attacks
on innocent civilians in the North.
In a telephone interview with Punch, the Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, said progress had been made in the fight against Boko Haram.
“The JTF has done their best and now we have the army there and it have done its best even though there are still killings going on, it’s been a while since we heard of large-scale bombing and other activities of Boko Haram. We salute their effort and we will continue to support them,” he said.
Asked if Christians in the North felt safer to go to their places of worship, Asake said they were glad with the relative quietness and hoped that the Boko Haram members would not regroup to continue their attacks.
He said, “Things are quiet for now, we don’t know whether they are regrouping or not. But we are thanking God that things are quiet for now and we pray it remains so. That is why we salute the JTF and the Army.”
On the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of the Security Challenges in the North, which has the mandate to work out a possible amnesty for repentant members of the sect, Asake said CAN would not support amnesty for Boko Haram and was not interested in the work of the committee.
“Count CAN out of that amnesty committee. We are not part of it, we don’t believe in them. So, I don’t have any comment on amnesty committee. Amnesty for who? CAN has a position on that and we are not changing it. Count us out when it comes to amnesty committee, we don’t know what they are saying,” he said.
Concerning the N5.7bn reportedly released by the Federal Government for the compensation of victims of the 2011 post-election violence in nine states of the North, Asake said CAN was not aware of the details of the disbursement plan for the funds.
President Goodluck Jonathan in July promised that the Federal Government would closely monitor the disbursement of the N5.7bn, which it had approved for victims of the 2011 post-election violence in nine of the 14 affected states to ensure fairness and equity.
The President had approved N1.57bn for Bauchi State; N55m for Sokoto; N93m for Zamfara; N433m for Niger; and N208m for Jigawa.
Others were N1.97bn for Katsina; N944m for Kano; N420m for Adamawa, and N43m for Akwa Ibom State.

Peter Okoye Makes Grammatical Error, Blocks Fan For Correcting Him
Peter Okoye of Psquare was trying to congratulate colleague
KCee 'Limpopo' crooner on twitter for joining the oil business. He
tweeted "Personally welcome u on bored" instead of 'on board'.
One of his fans who saw the grammatical blunder committed by the song star instead of correcting him, called him ‘An empty Head’, and Peter, as we learnt, quickly looked for ‘Block’ button and totally blocked the contact from causing any further ‘danger’.

Do you think Peter did the right thing by blocking him?

Students Don’t Want Us To End Strike – ASUU President
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it is continuing its nationwide strike on the advice of university students.
In
a telephone interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, the President of the union,
Dr. Isa Fagge, said students were tired of the incessant industrial
actions by the university lecturers due to the Federal Government’s
failure to implement the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.
Fagge said the union had decided to heed the advice of the students to continue the strike until the Federal Government fully implemented the agreement.
“Our students have come out to say they don’t want us to call off the strike until the Federal Government answers us, because they don’t want us to call off now and later we go back to strike again. So, we are heeding the advice of our students,” he said.
On the complaint by the Federal Government that it lacked the funds to implement the agreement, Fagge said it was not all about money, noting that government did not need funds to start implementing some parts of the agreement.
“There are issues and agreement they can implement without money. Why don’t they begin with those ones?” he asked.
He added that it was unfortunate that the government had pulled out of dialogue with ASUU, stating that the union would not be intimidated.
He said, “Now, government has pulled out of the dialogue. We thought we were the ones going on strike, but now government has also gone on strike.”
Last Thursday, university students under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Students reportedly staged a peaceful protest in Ado-Ekiti and flayed the Federal Government for failing to honour the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.
The students, who were from public universities, threatened to disrupt activities of private universities, adding that the government was not bothered about their plight because children of government officials were studying either in private universities or studying overseas.
The university lecturers began an indefinite strike on July 1 and have been demanding full implementation of the agreement ASUU had with the Federal Government in 2009, which among other things include the UNESCO-recommended 26 per cent budgetary allocation for education. However, the government said it could not implement the agreement, and is seeking re-negotiation.
The Federal Government, last Wednesday, accused ASUU of being unrealistic by continuing its nationwide strike and asked it to rethink its demands, considering other commitments government has.
The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who gave government’s position on the strike when he briefed journalists at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, said apart from security, education was one of the sectors the government had expended a lot of money on.

SHOCKING: Wife Pours Hot Water On Husband For 'Always' Demanding Sex (PHOTO)
SHOCKING: Wife Pours Hot Water On Husband For 'Always' Demanding Sex (PHOTO)
A newly wedded
wife, Jamila Saidu Umar is now cooling her heels in police cell in
Katsina State after being arrested for pouring hot water on her husband,
Aminu Umar, during an argument over sex.

It was gathered that Umar incurred his wife’s wrath when he accused her of not performing to his expectation in bed.
The suspect, Jamila Saidu Umar said “I have confessed my sin to the police at the State CID. I got married to my husband five days before the incident happened and I am his sixth wife.
“My husband had sex with me many times and on each occasion after the act, I would have to use hot water to treat the wound I sustained during the sex.
“My husband loves sex too much and there is no day he would have sex with me that I would not be treating wounds in my body with hot water.
“He complained that I didn’t satisfy him in the bed and that if I must remain with him I must agree to have sex and satisfy him always. I don’t know why he loves sex so much.”
Jamila further explained that an argument ensued between her and her husband on the day of the incident over sex.
“He kept accusing me of not performing to his satisfaction in bed and he started beating me.
“Suddenly I remembered that I had hot water on fire, which I was preparing for his bath. I rushed to the kitchen in annoyance and carried the hot water and poured all on him.”
“Neighbours who were nearby rushed in and rescued him and took him to the General Hospital in Katsina where he is receiving treatment.”
Narrating his ordeal, the victim, Aminu Umar said, “I instructed my wife to prepare hot water for me to bathe and we had a quarrel. My wife suddenly rushed into the kitchen and carried the hot water and before I knew what was happening, poured the hot water on me. I began to shout for help but she continued pouring the hot water on me.
“As I was shouting for help, the good people in the neighbourhood came to my rescue.”
Speaking on the incident, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Hurdi , said the ugly incident occurred about 10.00am in the Quarter Area of Katsina.
According to the commissioner, the suspect poured the hot water she was preparing for her husband’s bath due to the cold weather, on him during an argument, which resulted in a fight.
“The couple were just five days into their marriage when the incident occurred,” Hurdi said.
He said it was the husband’s cry for help that attracted good Samaritans who rescued and rushed him to the General Hospital in Katsina where he is receiving treatment.
The police commissioner said the suspect was in police custody and would soon be charged to court.
