Stowaway kid resumes school with security men

Arik-stowaway-boy

When 13-year-old Daniel Oikhena hid in the tyre compartment of a Lagos-bound Arik plane on August 24, little did he know he was going to become a hero.
However, luck smiled on Daniel after a safe landing and he became the boy of the moment.
Daniel’s mother, Evelyn, had earlier disclosed that her son had wanted to be a pilot.
Since the incident, seeing Daniel now is like forcing the carmel through the eye of a needle.
In fact, the mother said she no longer have free access to her own son. This is so because the state government had taken up the responsibility to ensure that he gets good education.
According to her “It is even difficult for me to see him some times because he is undergoing some training and that is being taken care of by the state government. I no longer have powers over him. It was even recently that I was able to see him.
“They decided to allow me see him because they were preparing him to go back to school. The only thing I can say now is that the father and his people are bothering my life. They think the state government gave me money and, rather than think about the welfare of the boy, they think it is all about money. They have accused me of saying that my husband was sick or was even dead, but I never said all that and God knows”.
“But I thank God for his mercy and that is why it is painful. Instead of the father to be grateful to God that the son survived in that aircraft, all they have been accusing me of, is money from the government. I am just saying it because if anything happens to me, they should be held responsible since they want to kill me for something I know nothing about.
“Right from day one, I have been running up and down about Daniel’s matter, none of them cared about what I went through with my children. My daughters are supposed to have gone back to school now but due to no money, they have not gone back. Their father does not care about that and it is very sad really”.
Meanwhile, Daniel went back to school on Monday, 16 September after he was examined by doctors and a psychologist and was found to be sound. He was accompanied by heavily armed security operatives.
A top official of the school said, unless there was an instruction from the Edo Government House, no one is allowed to talk to him on the matter.
He said, “You know that he is a government son now; so the instruction is to ensure that he is well monitored both for security reason and his education. So it is difficult for anyone to speak with him. The idea is to ensure that he forgets about what happened at the airport and concentrate in his studies and, so far, the boy is doing well.
“We want him to catch up with all he has missed educationally because we understand he was in a private school before but due to no money, he was almost becoming a drop out. Before he enrolled here, we were told that he told government he prefers this school.
“And that is why he was registered here. And if you look at our history, you will know that majority of the great men and women from this state attended this school, so the boy may be in another journey to glory here”.
“It is said that Daniel has joined the league of those referred to as Oshiomhole’s children going by the situation around him. These children are about 20, in different schools, and enjoying sponsorship from the governor.
It was learnt that government officials have been instructed to take care of the children who must enjoy the privileges accrued to governor’s children.”

“I love Falcao and Cavani” – Wenger

Falcao-Monaco

Arsene Wenger has reserved praise for strikers Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain) and Radamel Falcao (Monaco) and hailed them as two of the best in the world.
However, the Arsenal manager feels Falcao is slightly better in front of goal, although Cavani is more mobile. The two strikers will come face to face this weekend, in a keenly anticipated Ligue 1 clash.
“I believe it’s very difficult to make a difference because for me they are very similar. They have an animal aspect inside of them. Both of them are animals,” Wenger told Bein Sport.
“I think Cavani is a bit more mobile, and makes more runs off the ball, and Falcao is a bit more of a box player, a bit more of a killer than Cavani.
“But both of them, I love. And honestly, not to protect one or the other, but it’s very difficult to make a difference between the two.”
Cavani has scored twice in the French league this season, since his summer move from Napoli, while Falcao has four goals from five league appearances.

Mikel breaks EPL goal jinx, scores after 261 games

Mikel-Fulham

Mikel Obi, Chelsea Midfielder, on Saturday scored his first ever English Premier League (EPL) goal for the club since joining in 2006.
The goal came in the 84th minute in the match against Fulham.
Mikel stretched to tap in from a goal mouth scramble to secure 2-0 win for the London Club.
Football fans in Nigeria say it will be a morale booster for MIkel after a long goalless spell in the club.
Mr John Aka said that the goal would boost Mikel’s confidence and make him go for more goals.
“He can now believe in himself; the goal will spur him into being more adventurous instead of just being a passer of the ball.
“A good midfielder should have his name in the goal chart every season but that has not being the case of Mikel.’’
Another football fan, Dele Ojo, said that the coaching crew in Chelsea should encourage Mikel to push forward during attack.
“It is not that he does not have the ability to score but about the role he is given in Chelsea.’’
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles midfielder said he was delighted to have broken the jinx but attributed the goal to team work.
“I am very glad for the goal after a very long time; it’s about the team it’s about winning the game.’’
Oscar had fired Chelsea into the lead in the 52nd minute.
Chelsea are now back on the top of the EPL with the win.

ASUU may call off strike next week

Indication emerged Friday that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may call of its strike next week.
This came after a meeting with the striking lecturers and Vice-President, Namadi Sambo in Abuja on Thursday.
The meeting, which held behind closed doors had in attendance the supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike and the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie.
ASUU was led by its National President, Dr. Nasir Faggae, as well as two former Presidents of ASUU; Dr. Dipo Fasina and Dr. Abdullahi Sule-Kano.
Others at the meeting were the Vice-Chancellors of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Abdulrasheed Abubakar; Prof. Isaac Adewole of the University of Ibadan; and Prof. Muhammed Hamisu of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
The two parties did not disclose the outcome of the meeting, which lasted for almost two hours to newsmen.
Fagge, however, told State House Correspondents that the union would make its position known after the National Executive Council meeting.
Wike had assured Nigerians that students would soon return to school as the federal government was ready to shift ground.
However, an insider source who does not want his name mentioned said that going by the new offers made by the Federal Government, the strike might be called off within the next two weeks.
This, the source said, was because the Federal Government had agreed to release fund to revitalize the university system.
The source said, “The meeting went well, the vice-president made some new offers that were different from what was on ground before. For instance, the Federal Government had agreed to start the injection of revitalisation fund into the university system starting with N100bn this year and N150bn in 2014 and this will continue until the university system is solid enough to stand.”
The source, however, said that the ASUU team promised to get back to the vice-president after its NEC meeting, which is schedule for today, Saturday.

Governor Suswam, Lawani at loggerheads over 2015 guber race; deputy may dump PDP

Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam and his Deputy, Steve Lawani are currently not in good terms over the latter’s intention to contest for the state’s governorship election in 2015.
Things fell apart between the two politicians when Lawani in a recent public function held in Otukpo, the ancestral kingdom of the Idoma nation called on his kinsmen to support him to break the jinx as the first Idoma man to govern Benue State.
However, his decision did not go down well with governor Suswam who DailyPost learnt had secretly anointed Minister of Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom for the number one seat.
A reliable insider had informed DailyPost that though, Lawani had told Suswam of his intention to join the governorship race, his boss neither disapprove nor accept his request, but asked him to still go for consultations.
According to the source who would not want his name mentioned, “Suswam and his Deputy, Lawani have been at loggerheads for over two months now since his Deputy informed him of his plan to succeed him in 2015.”
“When Lawani first informed his boss, Suswan of his governorship ambition, a few months back, the governor thought he was joking and thus advised him to consult the Senate President for approval before making his intention known,” the source said.
However, David Mark at a meeting held in Otukpo recently told the Idoma people to forget ruling the state, saying that they can only be governor if the long-awaited Apa State was created.
Mark, the Okpokpowulu of Idoma land at the event, which had Lawani in attendance had told his kinsmen to forget ruling the state, noting that the Tiv, which is the majority would never give them the chance of governing the food basket state.
Apparently angered by Mark’s assertion, Lawani left the place and a week later, rolled out his campaign posters, announcing his arrival as candidate for the next election.
Our source said Suswam had since ordered that the posters of Lawami be removed from the streets of Makurdi.
The source said, “The Governor and his Deputy have been engaging in war of words since the latter opened up on his governorship ambition.”
Further investigation revealed that Suswam has been grooming Ortom for the number one seat.
DailyPost further learnt that Lawani may dump PDP for APC if the ruling party denies him ticket.
“He (Lawani) had met with top members of the APC in the state to inform them of his plans to succeed Suswam,” another source said.
Prior to the ongoing saga, Suswa and Lawani had maintained a close and refreshing relationship, which according to political analysts should ‘serve as a veritable point of reference or model for leaders who are really prepared to provide effective and sincere political leadership at all levels of governance where virtues of team work, collective sense of purpose and spirit of give and take should normally hold sway in the interest of the people that elected them to office.
However, the once cordial relationship has gone sour.

I Caught My Wife Cheating On Me With A Fake Facebook Profile

This is a controversial issue because it is not easy for many to resist temptation. The wife was tempted and she could not resist it. But the husband is saying he can't marry her again, calling her prostitute and all sorts of names and has decided to divorce her. The wife is begging for forgiveness.
Below is their story:

I have been married to my darling wife a few years now, I work in Abuja and she works in Lagos making us to spend less time together.
Even though i try as much as possible to Fly to Abuja every weekend, it has been very difficult for us.
One day as i was bored at work i playfully created a new fake facebook profile to troll people, with fake pictures of course and sent a friend request to my dear wife. And she accepted, I was witty at the beggining as it was fun for me but after a few weeks it got serious and i noticed she couldn't wait to talk to me and she revealed to me that she now hates weekend's because she the fake me is not online as the real me is next to her.
We chatted about everything ranging from Arts to music and future plans and recently our talk became sexual. She got turned on by my Fake profile's every request and trying to see how far she will go i told her to send me a picture of her private parts.
Suprisingly my dear wife sent the pictures without hesitation as fast as imaginable and as you can imagine i got very angry and decided to drop the act.
As soon as i got all the dirty pictures she sent , i revealed my true identity and since then she has been begging me to forgive and forget but i can't go back to marry such a whore, God knows how many men she has been sharing her body with in Abuja.
- What is the way out here? Should i forgive her or not?

Mourinho says Chelsea are struggling to play attacking football

Mourinho-United 2013

Jose Mourinho has suggested that Chelsea’s problem this season, is linked with the brand of football they are trying to play.
The Blues have lost back to back games against Everton in the Premier League and Basel in the Champions League. Mourinho feels his side’s lack of cutting edge is down to the type of football the club wants.
“I feel we are going in one direction, which is the direction we want to be to play a certain kind of football, but the reality is we are not scoring goals,” he is quoted in the Daily Mirror.
“You can’t say we don’t score goals because we’re not an offensive team and don’t play offensive football and don’t have ball possession, because we have an attacking mentality.
“Probably, if we play a defensive game and we just go on the counter-attack, probably we go there and score two or three goals.

ASEWO

Sometimes what you do in secret have a way of bringing you out for ridicule. This is the lesson a man who calls himself Pastor learnt when he decided to throw caution to the wind and succumbed to his lust.
The 56yrs old Pastor, who was said to have been seriously embarrassed sometime ago by a man who caught him with his wife, has refused to change his ways. He picked a runs girl around midnight for a good time and took her to a joint where she satisfied him.
However, at the end of the show, the lady decided to reveal her identity to the pastor:

Somehow the story got out as the lady later told one of her friend who leaked the “secret”. The matter is said to be causing serious disquiet in the church, as many are wondering if the man is really a pastor.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi aims at breaking Real Madrid icon Raul's Champions League goalscoring record.

photo Barcelona star Lionel Messi aims at breaking Real Madrid icon Raul's Champions League goalscoring record, but the striker added that he's also focused on winning trophies
Messi who netted a hat-trick in Barcelona's 4-0 Champions League victory over Ajax on Wednesday which increased his tally to 62, now the argentine needs nine goals to reach Madrid icon Raul's 71 Champions League goalscoring record.

"The idea of overtaking Raul at the top of the all-time Champions League scoring charts is a fine challenge," Messi was quoted as saying on the official Uefa website.

"It is not essential, though. We, as a team, have other more important objectives. For example, to get as far as we are capable of in this competition. To try to win it again.

"Obviously I am pleased that my hat-trick makes it 62 Champions League goals but above that is the result and how our team played.

"Whether the right number of goals come for me this season or not is less important."

Messi will be looking to add to his tally on matchday two when Barca travel to Celtic.

ASUU STRIKE: Presidency sacks Suswam Committee; takes over negotiation

Namadi-Sambo

The Presidency yesterday took over negotiation with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

Vice President, Namadi Sambo met with ASUU delegation last night at the Presidential Villa to discuss possible ways of resolving the more than two months old strike in order for the lecturers to return to the classrooms.
A committee headed by Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam had been in charge of the negotiations since the beginning of the strike, but has not been able to resolve the matter.
However, after yesterday’s meeting, the leadership of the union declined to disclose what was agreed upon.
ASUU President, Nasir Isa Fagge said that they took a message from the government and will meet their members and get back to government.
He declined to disclose the content of the message in respect of what the government may have offered the union in addition to the earlier N100bn and N30bn meant for infrastructure development in the various universities and payment of verified earned allowances respectively.
Faggae said: “We have had a meeting with the Vice President and he has given us a message to our members. I will say that like the messengers we are, we are going to take the message faithfully to our members and then our members will take their decision and then, we will get back to the minister of education.”
Meanwhile, the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of federal universities, yesterday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to call-off its over two months old strike and return to classrooms, in the interest of the country.
The committee made the appeal in a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Prof. Kimse Okoko, as a follow-up to their September 10 meeting, which held in Abuja.
Lamenting the consequences that have attended the strike, the pro-chancellors noted that the Federal Government has shown “demonstrable” commitment towards the implementation of the 2009 agreement it reached with ASUU, which invariably, forms the basis of the lingering industrial dispute.
Specifically, the communiqué noted that the government has started disbursing the N130billion it promised, direct to the universities.
The pro-chancellors further observed that the Federal Government has held several meetings with ASUU, the Committee of Pro-Chancellors, the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and all other relevant stakeholders all in a bid to resolve the imbroglio.
They further noted that all teaching and non-teaching staff of universities have been on Consolidated Salary Structure since 2009.
“Amendment to the pensionable retirement age of academics has been effected through the legislative process. Professors and Readers now retire at 70 years, while others now retire at 65 instead of 60 years,” the communiqué added.
In a related development, the planned protests by the Joint Action Fronts, JAF, in solidarity with unions in the educational sector shut down commercial activities as well as vehicular movements in some parts of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday.
The JAF protest, which consists of members of ASUU and some human right activists, lecturers and students under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, also led to hot altercations between the police and the protesters.
JAF had organised the protest as a way of sensitising the general public on the danger of the lingering strike by ASUU and the breakdown of negotiation between the two parties involved in the crisis.
The protest, which took off from the NNPC junction at Abiola Way, spread to Kuto, Isabo, Kemta, Ibara and other parts of the city, leading to serious traffic in the affected areas.
There was heavy presence of policemen and other security agencies across major areas where the protest took place.
A mild drama ensued at the NNPC Mega Station junction, where the protest took off as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation, AbdulMajeed Ahmad engaged some of the activists in a serious altercation over the blockage of the highway.
Addressing the protesters, the Secretary of JAF, Comrade Tunde Aremu stated that the strike was not about ASUU or any other unions in the education sector, but about the masses.
In his own remark, NANS President in the state, Damilola Ahmed said his members were in solidarity with all the unions in the sector, adding that the government has not been fair on the funding of education in the country.
In a related development, the Needs Assessment Implementation Committee for Public Universities in Nigeria, chaired by the Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, has constituted monitoring teams to oversee the execution of various infrastructure projects on the campuses of the 59 federal and state universities, which are beneficiaries of the N100bn intervention fund.
The composition of the monitoring teams was the high point of the committee’s meeting, held yesterday at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
The meeting, chaired by Governor Suswam was attended by the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, representatives of the Senate and House of Representatives’ Committees on Education and Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Minisry of Education, the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, and leaders of industrial unions in the university system (NASU, SSANU and NAATS) with the acting Executive Secretary of TeTFund, Mallam Aliyu Na’Iya as Secretary.
