The Act Of Greeting

Greeting is an act of communication in which human beings (as well as other animals)intentionally make their presence known to each other, to show attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship (usually cordial) or social status (formal or informal) between individuals or groups of people coming in contact with each other. Greetings sometimes are used just prior to a conversation or to greet in passing, such as on a sidewalk or trail. While greeting customs are highly culture and situation-specific and may change within a culture depending on social status and relationship, they exist in all known human cultures. Greetings can be expressed both audibly and physically, and often involve a combination of the two. This topic excludes military and ceremonial salutes but includes rituals other than gestures. A greeting can also be expressed in written communications, such as letters and emails.
Some epochs and cultures have had very elaborate greeting rituals, for example, greeting of a sovereign. Conversely, secret societies have often furtive or arcane greeting gestures and rituals, such as a secret handshake, which allow members to recognize each other.

In some languages and cultures, the same word or gesture is used as both greeting andfarewell. Examples are "Good day" in English, "Aloha" in Hawaiian, "Shalom" in Hebrew, "Namaste" in Hindi and "Ciao" in Italian. The bow and handshake are also used for both greeting and leave taking.

“Arsenal will not win the EPL, it’s between Liverpool and the Manchester teams” – Mourinho

Mourinho frustrated look

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has claimed that the Premier League will be won between the Manchester teams and Liverpool.
Arsenal are currently on top of the log, one point ahead of Manchester City, as the league reached its mid-way point this weekend.
Ahead of the clash between the Blues and Liverpool who are in fourth, Mourinho has declared that the visitors will be in the mix, especially since they don’t play in Europe this season.
Mourinho said: “At this moment, everybody’s there. It’s Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and City in the top four.
“This year the pressure will be not just to win the title, but to get top four. I think it’ll be hard.
“If I have to say, and I know you’d like me to say, Manchester City are the big, big, big favourites.
“Liverpool are on holidays for the whole season, one week to prepare a match, play the match, one more week to prepare the next match, which is an unbelievable advantage.
“And Manchester United, in spite of being a few points behind, are the reality of the last years.
“Leave us there, behind them. We’ll try and do our job and finish top four.
“Arsenal are like us. They play in the Champions League. They are trying to improve from the last few years. For many years they’ve not been at the top of the league.
“Chelsea were 25 and 14 points off the leaders in the last two years. For us and Arsenal we have to try and do our best.”

Boko Haram: ‘We are fighting a religious war against President Jonathan, Christians’ – Shekau

Boko Haram emir Abubakar Shekau makes his first major video appearance
The Islamic militant, Boko Haram, on Friday, in a new video made available to newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said the group is fighting a religious war against President Goodluck Jonathan and Christians.
This is contrary to the views of many that the group is not fighting a religious war.
According to leader of the group Abubakar Shekau, “This is to show our muslim brethren that victory comes from Allah. This is just a tip of the ice berg regarding the booty Allah has blessed us with, the booty, which took our brothers day and night to cart away.
“Our fighters stormed Bama (military) barracks. Allah threw them (troops) into confusion through some servants of Allah who dedicate themselves to Allah.
“Allah finished them. They bragged, they said whatever pleased them to the extent of claiming they have cleansed Bama, now that they have sticks-wielding vigilantes. Even Jonathan praised them, saying Bama are steadfast.
“It is in the same Bama that brothers pulverized 21 armoured tanks. People in multitudes were killed, bodies scattered all over. The sight would astonish any onlooker.
“Soldiers hid under blankets in their rooms and our fighters pursued them and blew out their brains.
“Had Allah allowed us to eat them we would have eaten them but we are not cannibals because we are not spirits or animals.
“As for killing, we will kill (for) Allah says we should decapitate, we should amputate the limbs, we should mutilate.
“This is a victory from Allah, that is why the title of this message is ‘Victory from Allah’.
“We were amazed by the victory in Damaturu, then a greater victory was achieved in Maiduguri and now Bama operation is better than Maiduguri. And tomorrow we will go to…(Laughter and shouts of Allahu Akbar in the background).
“By Allah, if you want to secure peace in this world, you should repent.
“My brethren, we should thank Allah. They try to brainwash the people that we are fighting an ethnic war. No, we are fighting a religious war, we are fighting Jonathan, we are fighting Christians.
“This is a bounty placed on me (brandishing a flyer with his picture), that whoever finds me, finds me and takes to Jonathan, will be given 50 million naira.
“What is 50 million naira. Do you know what we are doing? Your armoured tank is worth more than 50 million naira and we burn it. Haven’t we burnt your aircraft? What is 50 million naira. We do not worship money. As for he who is in our midst for money, Allah has taken care of him. Hypocrites who lived with the Prophet could not harm him. You can’t in anyway harm me.
“Even America has placed $7 million ransom (on my head) if you arrest and take me.
“It is difficult indeed. The way you hide Jonathan in Aso Rock and hide Obama in White House, so does Allah hide me under His protection. You are with Jonathan and Obama while I’m with Allah. Let’s play then

Nigerian teenager arrested in Italy for killing 60 year old woman

A 19 year old Nigerian homeless man has been arrested in Italy for killing a 60 year old woman. Nwajiobi Donald (pictured above) strangled Caterina Susca with a bag over her head in her home in Bari, a southern Italian coastal city on Monday November 11th. Chris Brown to be jailed for two years? C'mon MTO, stop!

MediaTakeOut is the only gossip site in the world reporting that Chris Brown is about to be locked up for 2 years. If it was TMZ reporting this, I'd be really worried, but MTO have a way of exaggerating things. Hopefully this is not true. Below is how they are reporting Chris Brown's impending jail time.
MediaTakeOut.com just spoke with a very well placed insider - inside the Los Angeles Probation Department - and they tell us that they will ask that Chris Brown be taken to jail immediately  for two years..
The insider told us that the decision has already been made - they want Chris in jail for two years. And the department is working on a brief as we speak - to ensure that Chris gets locked up.
According to our insider, there is not much that Chris Brown can do about it either. They explained, "[Chris] lawyer can't really stop him from getting locked up. Only the judge can save Chris . . . but no one expects that to happen."
According to our insider Chris is expected to be locked up as early as next week.
Who believes this?

The incident occurred shortly after Governor Peter Obi, the governorship candidate for the All progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Willie Obiano; and the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, among others left the place after an all-night church programme.

Obi, who later on visited hospitals, where the survivors of the stampede were being attended to, promised to set up a panel to investigate the cause of the stampede.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka , confirmed the incident but said he could not give figures or state the cause of the incident because investigations were still going on to establish the cause of the incident.

The Founder and Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Centre, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obinma, a Catholic priest popularly called Ebube Mmuonso (the glory of the Holy Ghost), also went round to see and pray for the survivors.

He, however, said he was still too shocked to comment on the incident.

ASUP begins nationwide strike, threatens prolonged action

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), on Sunday announced the commencement of a nationwide strike, effective Monday morning.
The Union attributed its decision to what it described as government’s nonchalant attitude towards technical and technological education, as well as under-funding of the institutions.
ASUP Zonal Coordinator, South-West zone, Mr. Dosunmu Babatunde, told newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, that the technological and overall development of the country is only achievable through functional polytechnic education.
He lamented the wrong body language of federal and state governments towards polytechnic education, warning that the action may drag for a long time, if the Union’s demands were not meet.
Speaking further, the coordinator expressed ASUP’s concern at the slow rate of development in some institutions.
“We are worried by the state of polytechnic education in the country, especially those owned by the states,” he said, listing out states such as Kwara, Ondo and Ogun.
Other grievances, according to him, are “refusal of most state governments to implement the approved new salary scale for polytechnic teachers and the 65 years retirement age.”
“Imposition of professors from outside the polytechnic sector as rectors and the need for the commencement of the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Polytechnics so as not to allow the sector to collapse totally.”
The ASUP strike has come at a time the ongoing sit-at-home protest by their colleagues in government-owned universities is about 100 days old.

Benue boils again as suspected Fulani herdsmen kill three, destroy houses

At least, three persons are feared killed Friday when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Ejima community in Agatu local government area of Benue state.
The renewed attack also left several houses and farmland destroyed while many of the natives had reportedly abandoned their homes for fear of being killed by the bloodthirsty men who are presently operating in the community.
It was gathered that the gunmen had laid siege on the community, and marched into the community in their hundreds from neighbouring Nasarawa state.
A member representing Agatu state constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Alhaji Audu Sule who confirmed the crisis to newsmen in Makurdi said the fresh attack occurred in the early hours of yesterday when the villagers were preparing to go to their farms.”
According to the lawmaker, “hundreds of Fulani mercenaries were hired by the Fulani invaders who have been attacking several communities in my local government area and we hear that they are planning to launch further attacks from neighboring Nasarawa state.”
Sule while lamenting the continual attack on his constituents by Fulani herdsmen called on security agencies in both Benue and Nasarawa states to step up the patrol around the border communities to avert further attacks and killings.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy Superintendent, Daniel Ezeala said he was yet to receive details of the fresh attack, but added that the Commissioner of Police, Adams Audu had since deployed well armed policemen to the crisis area to maintain peace.
