“Signing Ozil is a big statement, but it was a complicated deal” – Wenger

Arsene Wenger has indicated Arsenal are in position to challenge for top honours again following the signing of Mesut Ozil.
The Germany playmaker joined the Gunners from Real Madrid on the final day of the transfer window in a club record €47 million deal, following years of criticism over the Londoners’ lack of spending in the transfer market.
“Of course [it’s a statement],” Wenger said. “We had to go through some years with restricted financial potential and the target was to stay in the Champions League during this period.
“We were able to do it and now we are strong financially. The best thing is to spend the money in an efficient way. That means to strengthen the team and spend money you can afford to spend.”
Wenger added he is yet to decide whether Ozil will start in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Sunderland after the 24-year-old only completed his first training session with his new club on Thursday.
The Arsenal boss admits he was surprised that Real Madrid chose to cash in on Ozil but believes the deal was dependent on Gareth Bale’s world record €100m switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Honestly, I think it was linked with the Bale transfer,” Wenger added. “I don’t know why Madrid sold him – was it financial reasons? Was it because they had to let somebody go? I was surprised, yes.
“He’s already a great player but there’s room between 25 and 30 to become a dominant player. That’s the age range when you step up from very good to great.
“I wouldn’t say it was an easy deal. It was very complicated because the timing was short. On Sunday, just before the Tottenham game, I thought we had managed to do it. We were 90 per cent there.”

“FG laments quality of graduates but refuses to fund education system” – ASUU

ASUU-president-Fagge
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Wednesday took a swipe at the Federal Government for usually complaining about quality of varsity graduates, while it is yet to adequately fund the sector.
“A government that always says our graduates are not employable finds it difficult to put the best of its resources into the system to make it work,” ASUU posited.
The union also debunked claims by the current administration that N130billion had been released to the nation’s universities.
It stated that government only sent a letter to the governing councils of universities through the National Universities Commission, NUC.
ASUU gave the clarification in a communiqué read by ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Ademola Nasir, at the end of the zone meeting which held at the University of Ibadan.
The zone comprises University of Ibadan, Lagos State University, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, University of Lagos, Olabisi Onabanjo University and Tai Solarin University of Education.
The lecturers lamented that government was only interested in awarding contracts of a four-bedroom for N8.5million instead of the original cost of N800,000 and N1.2million.
“Rather than for government to source for the intervention funds from other agencies outside TETFUND, it has decided to hijack the resources of TETFUND, which already belong to the universities and use it as intervention funds for this purpose, it said.
“In doing this, the regular intervention of TETFUND is blocked. This attitude of government is fraudulent to say the least.”
The union also passed a vote of confidence on its national leadership over the current strike.

Abuja young ladies now turn drivers, Power-bikers, ushers and bouncers

The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is considered one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
This statement has always been justified through the various innovations the city continues to witness even with the influx of different people into the capital city.

Most girls in the FCT are either engaged in Sugar daddy business, executive prostitution or ‘One Chance’.
This, our reporter said was one of the reasons the FCT administration now uses the Military to harass young girls at clubs and on the streets of the capital city. Those who dress transparently or half-naked are often used as scapegoats.
However, the trend is changing as some journalists recently ran into some group of young girls who now call themselves protocol 101. These young girls have decided to change the trend, and to use their beauty to add colour to the city that is now considered one of the biggest in the world.
The young ladies who were seen in numbers and beautifully dressed were at various events, adding colour, class, grandeur and ‘swag’ to those events.
Recently at various weddings and major events in Abuja, they were been used as pickups and for personal show-off.
They chauffeur VIPs to events, keep them entertained and run various services for such VIPs; who knows what happens in the dark?  It is an all female logistic/service group of young, beautiful ladies, consisting of Drivers, power-bikers, Bouncers, Protocols and Ushers.

This is what one of them said,” So much Millions is spent on the stylish looks of couples during weddings as well as the “interior” decorations of Event Venues, leaving out an equally important component of a successful event, the “exterior”. Your movement in and out of an event should be as celebrated as the other components. We are set to bridge the gap. We are bridge builders. We celebrate the “Exterior/Logistics” of every event. Your “memorable day” is not complete without us.”
We were told that one Nicky Nwadinobi is in charge. Isn’t this at the extreme?

Olu of Warri denies his christian faith, retains traditional title

After a protracted battle, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II, has denied his Christian faith, thereby retaining his “Ogiame” traditional title.
Despite an early Tuesday morning downpour in Warri, thousands of men, women and youth of Itsekiri stormed the streets in protest against the Monarch’s new-found Christian faith, compelling him to renounce his faith, and to retain his title.
The Monarch had on 4 September renounced the title on the ground that he had found a new life in Christianity and was born again, an action his people said was against their tradition.
The Itsekiri elders under the aegis of Itsekiri Elders and Leaders of Thought, after several hours of deliberations and consultations on Monday, had given the Olu of Warri 48 hours to rescind his declaration or abdicate the throne.
DailyPost learnt that women were mobilized to cook for the protesters who camped beside the king’s palace just as masquerades were seen all over the place.
However, after series of meetings with his palace chiefs, the Monarch agreed to retain the Ogiame title, which means “King of all Water gods and goddesses.”
It was observed that the royal father had bowed to the pressure when cannon shots were fired at about 11:30pm, which was very unusual.
Shortly after, the Warri Council chiefs emerged from the palace to drop the cheering news that the king had rescinded his decision to the protesters amidst wild jubilation.
Spokesman of the council Chief, Charles Ikomi told the crowd that the Olu of Warri had accepted to “drop the issue”.
Chief (Mrs) Rita Lori-Ogbebor lauded the angry Itsekiris, comprising old men, women and youths for their peaceful protests in the past few days and urged them to return to their various homes because “our monarch has dropped the issue”.
The message was brief, but the protesters were satisfied and went into wild jubilation, while the masquerades spiced the occasion with different traditional dances.
Another round of cannon shot was fired after the message was delivered, signalling the Itsekiris’ acceptance of the new position of their royal father.
It was gathered that the Council of Chiefs, thereafter returned to the palace to thank the Monarch for the decision, while the celebration lasted.
The Ogiame title, which Olu chose in the 80s during his coronation is second to none in the Itsekiri nation.

ASUU strike: Suswam did not advise FG properly – Lecturers vow to continue with strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has blamed the lingering strike on the chairman of universities’ NEEDS Assessment Committee and Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam.
According to ASUU, the governor failed to advise the federal government properly.
ASUU, while accusing Suswam of trying to blackmail the Union, asserted that no amount of blackmail or intimidation would stop it from pursuing the implementation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement, which was the only way to end the impasse.
Fielding questions from newsmen at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, the Calabar Zone of the Union, led by Dr. Charles Ononuju, accused the NEEDS Committee of rushing to release money to pro-chancellors and Vice Chancellors, instead of addressing abnormalities in the NEEDS Report Implementation Committee.
He said: “Since the commencement of the strike, our union has met with government team for more than 11 times. After the last meeting, the union raised some observations/abnormalities on the Governor Gabriel Suswan-led NEEDS Report Implementation Committee and communicated same to the chairman of the Committee, Governor Suswan, expecting a response.
“Rather than responding to the observations raised by the union that would usher in quick and peaceful resolution of the impasse, the government summoned a meeting with pro-chancellors and vice chancellors and offered to them N130 billion with a matching order for the lecturers to return to work, thereby pulling out of the dialogue.
“Government, by throwing arbitrary awards at the universities, has in effect repudiated the 2009 Agreement and the MoU of 2012 based on that agreement. We reject the arbitrary imposition of money from the government. What makes a person, an organisation, including government honourable is honouring an agreement freely made.
“The government should honour the agreement it freely entered into with the union since 2009. ASUU is not making any fresh demands. This is our position and where we stand and shall continue to stand.”
Speaking further, Ononuju also lambasted Governor Suswam for accusing the union of playing politics with its demands, describing the governor’s position as “false, dishonest, calculated to misinform the public and cause disaffection towards the union.”
“Rather than seek cheap popularity, he should take the part of honour by asking his principal to honour the agreement.
“We hereby call on our members and the Nigerian people to reject this cheap blackmail and continue to stand on the path of truth and social justice.”
“No amount of blackmail will make the union jettison our resolve to get the government to implement the 2009 ASUU/FG Agreement and MoU of January 24, 2012.
“We wish to emphasise strongly here that our struggle has no political undertone as is being falsely and mischievously propagated. Those saying otherwise are economical with the truth.”

How our Pastor raped me throughout the night – 12-year-old girl confesses [PHOTO]

Pastor_Raped_Girl_in_Anambra

A 12-year-old girl, Miss Ijeoma Mbiaka, on Wednesday narrated to DailyPost how the pastor of her church, Rhema Ministries in Oyeagu Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Rev Sampson Otisi allegedly lured her to a hotel, under the guise of conducting deliverance on her but ended up raping her all through the night.
Ijeoma, who is hard at hearing, told our reporter that she had gone to the church to seek prayers from the pastor so that she could hear loudly again.
She, however, said she was lured to the hotel and raped from 9 pm to the next morning and dumped in the hotel room, where she cried until hotel attendants rescued her.
Speaking at the Magistrate Court Abagana after a court session, Ijeoma said she prayed all night reminding the pastor of the consequence of his act, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.
The victim came to the court aided as a result of the injuries she sustained during the alleged act.
According to her, “It started on a Tuesday when I went to the church for prayers. I have not been hearing clearly with my ears for sometime, so I went to the pastor for prayers and when I told him my problem, he said I should stay behind that he will pray for me after everyone has gone”.
She continued that, “After the session that day, he called me to the backyard and started praying for me. He poured anointing oil into my ear and mouth. He now ordered me to remove my dress and he poured some on my tummy and started massaging it. After sometime, he started putting his hand inside(Vagina), to which I objected. He said he will leave me if I do not want him to pray for me”.
Ijeoma narrated that as usual the pastor had asked her to stay behind, that he will conduct a special prayer for her and her hearing will be okay again.
“After the service, only he and his friend were left, he said he will take me to the house and pray for me, but when I objected and told him that my father will kill me, he said I should not mind that nothing will happen to me.
“He took me to a hotel, ran upstairs and came back and ordered me and his friend to come with him. He took us up and put his friend in another room and took me to a separate room. He ordered food for me and hot drink, to which I objected. He said the drink was part of the deliverance that I had to drink it. He forced it down my throat and when I started to feel sleepy he undressed me and inserted his ‘something’ into me; then he started pushing it in and pushing out.
“Even when blood was gushing out of me, he continued to push the ‘thing’ inside. I tried shouting but he covered my mouth, when I could not help myself, I started praying and telling him of the implication of what he was doing to me before God but he kept on”.
She said she was only freed the next morning when she regained consciousness and started banging the door of the hotel room asking for assistance.
Though Ijeoma said she complained to her mum when she got back after the first incident, her mum, Mrs Ifeoma who also spoke to DailyPost said she confronted the pastor the next day and he denied putting his hand under the girls pant, claiming he was only praying for her; a defense which led the gullible woman to accept that the pastor meant well.
She stated that the truth, however, dawned on her on the following Tuesday when her daughter went to the same church and failed to return home.
“I thought she had been kidnapped, in fact I believe this is also kidnap”, she told our reporter.
A copy of medical report issued to her by the Chief Medical Officer of Enugu Ukwu General Hospital, Dr J.O Akuka which her parents showed to our reporter revealed that she sustained bruises, and a torn hymen.
This showed that there was a penetration in her vagina.
Ijeoma’s father pleaded with the relevant authorities to help her find justice for her innocent daughter who was violated by a man she trusted to be a Man of God, as the matter is currently before a Magistrate court in Abagana.
He told our reporter that the pastor had allegedly offered him N500, 000 to keep sealed lips, an offer he rejected, but expressed fears that the pastor may use the money to subvert justice.
The pastor, Rev Otisi, who is the senior pastor of a branch of Rhema Church in Abagana refused to make comments when he was approached.
His counsel, Barr CC Achi, however, said that the matter was only being engineered by unseen hands from behind as his client occupied a land that is in dispute.
“The issue here is land dispute, but these people are being used by someone who is in tussle over a piece of land with our client. On a separate allegation of being previously charged with the rape of 8-year-old in his church, the lawyer said it was not true, adding that it was meant to paint his client in bad light.

Kaduna villagers flee homes after Fulani attacks

The Grave of Joseph Abwoi and his wife Asabat

About 500 inhabitants of Adu village in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State have fled their homes for ten days now after the village was attacked by gunmen suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen.
Adu village, about 220 kilometers from Kaduna, the Kaduna State capital was attacked in the early hours of September 1, 2913 by Fulani Herdsmen, leading to the death of at least nine persons.
When DailyPost visited the village on Tuesday, the villagers were yet to return.
At the Primary Health Care Centre in the village, only four mobile policemen were seen sitting in front of the clinic, while another patrol team of soldiers were seen in a pickup vehicle moving between Zankan village and Adu village.
Three of the villagers who braved to return to pick some items from their houses, James Moses, 29, Matthew Vincent, 47, and Gabriel Nkom, 25, told DailyPost that they still considered it a risk to return to the village in spite of the presence of the four mobile policemen.
Gabriel Nkom stated that seven of his relatives were killed in the attack, and gave the names of the victims as: Anthony Nkom, 60; Andrew Nkom, 37; Asabe Nkom, 45; Happiness Nkom, 15; and Menshack Nkom, 5.
Gabriel Anthony Nkom, the only surviving member of the Nkom family
Three other members of the Nkom family sustained injuries in the attack, Gabriel Nkom told Dailypost.
The names of the inured are: Shenyan, 3, Kawot, 5, and Godiya, 9.
Nkom, an apprentice at the Wadong Water Project in the town of Zonkwa, said it was a miracle that he and some few other family members escaped from the bullets of the Fulani attackers.
James Moses and Matthew Vincent, who corroborated the story of the killing of the seven members of the Nkom family also said two other members of the community, a couple, were killed in the attack.
They gave the names of the couple as Joseph Abwoi, 50, and Asabat Abwoi, 40.

Shenyan, 3, lost both parents in the attack, being taken care of by a family relation at the Kaura Rural Hospital
The fleeing villagers have moved to Sabon Gari, Manchok, and other safe towns and villages in Kaura Local Government Area, our source further stated.
DailyPost was at the Kaura Local Government Secretariat but could not meet both the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman as they were said to be out of office at the time.
However, Rev. Yakubu Gandu, a clergy in the area, told DailyPost that he was saddened by the unprovoked attacks on his people.
“There is the need for the Federal Government to brace up to this challenge of unprovoked attacks on our people and do all it can to stem this tide of terrorism by the Fulani”, Gandu said.
Gandu, who is the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Zakan Chapter, added that “the government should try to find out how these problems of insecurity can be brought to an end”.

Shut up or I reveal your dirty linen – Farida Waziri warns Obasanjo

 Olusegun Obasanjo

A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida Waziri, yesterday blew hot, as she threatened to “open up” on former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo had in a recent interview stated that Waziri became head of the anti-graft agency on her recommendation by the convicted former governor of Delta State, James Ibori.
In a statement signed by her aide, the former anti-corruption boss said “I will like to warn that those who live in glass house don’t throw stones and as such, Obasanjo should not allow me open up on him.”
While she denied knowing or meeting Ibori until long after she had been appointed head of the Agency, she also narrated how she initiated the investigation that eventually led to Ibori’s conviction by a United Kingdom court.
The statement reads in part, “My attention has been drawn to a number of allegations made against me by Mr. Obasanjo. One of such was the alleged involvement of former Delta State governor, James Ibori, in my appointment.
“While I hold the office of a Head of State, either serving or retired, in the highest esteem, I will like to put on record for the umpteenth time that this is totally unfounded, blatant lie and arrant falsehood. It is therefore worrisome when a man who has been twice a Nigerian Head of State can descend so low to peddle falsehood.
“The truth is that I never met Ibori in my life until after months in office as chairman of the EFCC, when I used to see him in the Presidential Villa. It is on record today that I initiated the investigation that drove Ibori into the waiting hands of Interpol and Metpolice.”
She reminded Obasanjo that ability to be used to witch-hunt political enemies in the rabid pursuit of a third term agenda has never been part of the qualifications for appointment as chairman of the anti-graft agency.”
She alleged that the same “lies” were cooked up by “Obasanjo’s sit-tight pawns” to stop her appointment as EFCC chairman in 2008. She added: “Qualification for appointment as chairman of the Commission, as stipulated in its Establishment Act, says that the chairman shall ‘be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency, not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent; and possess not less than 15 years cognate experience.’
“Late President (Umaru Musa) Yar’Adua did not have to alter the Establishment Act when he was appointing me, unlike what Obasanjo did. Again for the records, I served in the Nigeria Police Force for 35 years and got to the pinnacle of my career before my appointment as EFCC chairman.
“If Obasanjo’s real age has not blurred his memory, I will like to remind him that I was a Commissioner of Police, Admin Force CID, CP General Investigations, CP Anti-fraud, CP X Squad, CP Police Special Fraud Unit where I secured the first conviction in a case of Advance Fee Fraud in Nigerian history.”
Waziri stated further that, “These are all prime investigative organs of the Nigeria Police, where I related with other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, across the world. I must place on record that at SFU, I did not only relate with FBI, Interpol and Metpolice, among others, we carried out joint operations at different times on a number of cases. I have also led the Nigerian delegation to the Interpol Headquarters in France.”
She added that Nuhu Ribadu and Ibrahim Lamorde (the past and present chairmen of EFCC respectively), had both worked under her, thereby making the allegation on qualification baseless.
“This is in addition to my educational qualifications such as a first degree in Law, a master’s degree in Law and another master’s degree in Strategic Studies,” she noted. “I doubt if Obasanjo himself can boast of this level of educational qualifications.
“I will also like to remind Obasanjo that no chairman of the EFCC has till date beaten my records in terms of investigation of high profile cases, prosecution, conviction and recovery.
