First Lady denies involvement in sale of Enugu Distribution Company

First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has denied any interest in the sale of Enugu Distribution Company.
A statement issued on Sunday night by Mrs. Ayo Adesugba, her Director of Information, said there was no truth in the online article published on Sahara Reporters, titled “Nigeria’s First Lady, Vice President behind the Enugu Disco Sale Fiasco.”
“Normally, the hearsay and conjectures in the article should have been ignored due to the fact that it is speculative journalism at its worst, she said.
“Additionally, the article as it pertains to the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, is devoid of any concrete evidence or supporting documents. However, since the First Lady’s name has been mentioned in the article we are duty bound to respond so that the public will not be unwittingly misled.”
According to the report “A major source in the Presidency disclosed that Mrs. Jonathan is the unseen hand behind the constant bending of rules for Interstate by both the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the National Council on Privatization (NCP).”
It further states that, “The reason for the First Lady’s meddling is that Emeka Offor, leader of the Interstate consortium, has convinced her that he would protect her secret business interest in the consortium.”
Continuing, “Mr. Offor confided in associates early this week that he had advised Mrs. Jonathan, who hails from Rivers State as Peterside, to put pressure on the NCP technical committee chairman to “take it easy because this is Nigeria, and not America or London.”
But the statement maintained there is no veracity whatsoever in the report.
“The First Lady is not interested and has no link whatsoever to the sale, or bending of rules, if any, for the sale of any public enterprise. The article is not only speculative and uncharitable but also extremely unfair and provocative.
Mrs. Jonathan’s aide said the report wasagainst the basic ethics of journalism, having failed to be fair, wondering why nobody from the news site requested the First Lady’s own side of the rumored story.
“It is our hope that in future, Sahara Reporters will present concrete facts to buttress whatever claims it has, so that we can examine facts and not respond to hearsay or rumour from unidentified sources.
Mrs. Adesugba said her boss’s attention is firmly focused on her philanthropic roles through her NGOs and on promoting peace in her capacity as the President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission.
“Dame Patience is also working with commitment to ensure greater online security for Nigerian children in her capacity as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Child Online Protection Champion.
“Unfounded and speculative reports such as the one carried by Sahara Reporters are unnecessary distractions which we hope all well-meaning Nigerians should ignore,” concluded the statement.

Late prophet Ajanaku's wife moves to rented apartment as his family fight over his assets

Joy Ajanaku, the wife of the late spiritual leader of Christ Victory Chapel International, prophet Ireti Ajanaku, who died August 18th (or 22nd), has been forced to move out of her matrimonial home into a rented apartment after her husband's family allegedly made life difficult for her after the prophet passed on. According to reliable sources, the ministry's board moved Joy Ajananku and her children out of her husband's Lagos home into a 3-bedroom flat in Abule Egba, Lagos after constant harassment from the prophet's family, who are insisting that Joy is not legally married to their son.

Joy and Ireti Ajanaku lived together for 7 years before finally formalizing their union with a court wedding in 2010 but the family insist that the wedding never took place...and want her removed as the man's next of kin. Family members are now fighting over his assets said to be worth millions of Naira.

Despite having issue's her late husband's family, Joy Ajanaku is on great terms with members of the church her husband left behind. The ministry's board agreed to install her as their new leader and said the late prophet anointed her as the chosen one before his death. They also said they have a wedding certificate to prove that she was truly married to their late spiritual leader. Joy and some members of the church are getting ready to take late Ajanaku's family to court over his estate.

CAN gives El-Rufai 7 days to reveal source of Oritsejafor’s private jet

Controversial politician and former minister for the Federal Capital Terrotory, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, has been given a 7-day ultimatum by the Christian Association of Nigeria to reveal to Nigerians who gave the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, his private jet or risk having his dirty character exposed to the public. The Christian Association also asked El-Rufai to go for a Psychiatric test.

This is in response to the interview the former minister granted Saturday Sun dated 14th September where he called the CAN president a bigot and a pretender. El-Rufai said:
"The CAN president is not a religious leader. He is a religious pretender. From the statements he has made, he is a bigot. He is an ethnic irredentist and no one should take him serious. It is sad that such a person is the head of CAN. He can say whatever he wants to say but we know who he is working for, we know who gave him his private jet. so why should we worry about someone like that. He has zero credibility".
See CAN's response to El-Rufai's comments after the cut...

In a statement signed by Rev Emmanuel Dziggau and Elder Sunday Oibe, CAN said "The fact that he can abuse Jesus Christ in his tweets and Christians ignored him does not give him the impetus to make unguarded comments about Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, who is the leader of the Christians in Nigeria"

They also noted that Christians respect other faiths and have never abused the Sultan of Sokoto or the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar 111 who is the leader of the Muslims in Nigeria.

You need prayers and psychological assistance – Jonathan tells el-Rufai

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday warned Nigerians to beware of the former FCT Minister and Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Malam Nasir el-Rufai whom he described as “a double minded and unstable man in all his ways.”
Jonathan was reacting to an interview el Rufai granted Saturday Sun of September 14, 2013 where he said that nothing could make President Jonathan succeed because he was grossly an incompetent leader who doesn’t have a listening ear.
Jonathan in a statement issued in Abuja by his special assistant (New Media), Mr Reno Omokri, called on the public to disregard el-Rufai, who he said to be “a man in dire need of prayers and perhaps psychological assistance.”.
Omokori said, “Beyond that, Nasir el-Rufai, who had gone into voluntary exile under the presidency of Malam Umaru Musa Yar’Adua after he was accused of corruption and abuse of office while he was Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), felt safe enough to return to Nigeria as soon as President Jonathan ascended to power.
Omokri recalled that when el-Rufai returned to Nigeria a few years back, he visited President Jonathan at the presidential villa on May 11, 2010, and was the first major political figure to call on him to contest for the 2011 presidential election.
According to him, el-Rufai showered encomiums on Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the latest interview contrary to a damning conclusion on the General in 2010.
Quoting el-Rufai thus; “I think that where Nigeria is today, it is only someone like Buhari, with the experience of having run the country before, and having run it along certain principles of discipline, integrity and accountability, that Nigeria needs,” he stated.
He further recalled that the same el-Rufai had, however, in October 6, 2010, said Buhari was not a suitable person to rule the country. Omokori Quoted him thus; “Malam el-Rufai wishes to remind General Buhari that he has remained perpetually unelectable because his record as military head of state, and afterwards, is a warning that many Nigerians have wisely heeded.
“His insensitivity to Nigeria’s diversity and his parochial focus are already well-known. In 1984, Buhari allowed 53 suitcases belonging to his ADC’s father to enter Nigeria unchecked at a time the country was exchanging old currency for new. Against all canons of legal decency, he used retroactive laws to execute three young men for drug-peddling after they were convicted by a military tribunal and not regular courts of law.
“Buhari was so high-handed that he gave himself and his officials immunity even from truthful reporting. That obnoxious Decree 4, against which truth was no defence, was used to jail journalists and attempt to cow the media as a whole. That tyrannical legislation showed the essence of his intolerance. These are facts of recent history.
“The story of counter-trade and import licensing, the cornerstone of Buhari’s stone-age economic strategy and those whose interests it served, is a tale for another day.”
The statement noted that, “It is obvious to all that there is more than one personality in possession of the mind and soul of this man called Nasir el-Rufai. Can any sane person trust the words of a man who is so unstable? Today, el-Rufai, perhaps banking on what he thinks is the short memory of Nigerians, is attempting to rewrite history. But it is such a difficult task to paint the truth with a lie.
“Nasir el-Rufai wanted something from the President which was why he visited him at the presidential villa to heap unsolicited praise on the president in 2010. When he did not get what he wanted, he became bitter and since the days of yore when the fox that could not get the grapes tagged them ‘sour grapes’ to mask its frustration, it has always been the habit of persons who cannot compete on the basis of ideas to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it.
“Thus, el-Rufai, having run out of ideas, has tagged this administration as ‘incompetent,” he said

“I will never stop fighting for democracy” – former vice president Atiku Abubakar turns blogger

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has opened a new blog where he chooses to share his thought and opinions on issues.
Atiku kicked off by sharing a post on “I will never stop fighting for democracy” and gave a full narration of why he won’t stop. The 1000 + blog post generated about 55 comments.
The post reads thus:
On the night of April 19, 2007, I sat with the head of my media team in a long conversation over dinner. It was a light-hearted conversation about many things: family, religion, and history. We joked about a recent visit by a friend, and the recent pranks by his youngest child. Everything but politics. This might sound strange because that was two nights before the 2007 Presidential Elections, and we were about to lose. It was my first, and only, run in a general election for president, and I knew it would be a heavy loss

ASUU strike: nPDP declares 7-day fasting and prayers

new-pdp-baraje
Having considered that the lingering ASUU strike was a major threat to the nation’s peace and security as well as the nation’s democracy, the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, has gone into a seven-day fasting and prayer, starting from Monday (today) . The aim is to go before God in prayers to touch both parties involved in the matter in order to attain a peaceful resolution. The new party has equally called on its members across the country and other parts of the world to participate in the exercise as its major concern was to ensure that the plights of students and parents who are currently being frustrated as a result of the ongoing strike is addressed through spiritual intervention. It equally said that the new approach was aimed at protesting what it described as Government’s failure to keep to an agreement reached with ASUU in 2009. With this development, Alhaji Baraje has instituted a four-man Committee with Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State as Chairman. The aim is to advise the party on the best way to approach both the Federal government and ASUU on the matter, so a perfect and permanent resolution can be achieved. Other members of the committee are Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, Chinwo Ike, President of UNIPORT Alumni, and Mr. Timi Frank, the nPDP National Youth Leader. “We sincerely solicit the patience of Nigerians while appealing to the Federal Government and the leadership of ASUU to end this imbroglio so that our children may go back to school instead of engaging in acts inimical to their future,’’ the group had stated. “The need for this has become urgent as reports reaching us indicate that many of these students have out of frustration and boredom turned to prostitution, armed robbery and other vices due to the prolonged strike.’’ It further affirmed. While commenting on its secretariat that was sealed by the police , the group said: “To the glory of God, contrary to the prayers of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’s faction of PDP, a Federal High Court in Abuja on September 13, 2013, ruled that the Baraje faction of PDP should be allowed to operate without any further harassment or inhibition as it is not breaking any known law. Justice E.S. Chukwu in his ruling held that there was no evidence before the court to show any tardiness on the part of Baraje’s faction as claimed by the Tukur-led faction, which requested it to stop the Baraje-led PDP from operating.”

“I was once attacked with tomatoes for snatching my friend’s husband…” – Shan George reveals

In a recent interview with a national newspaper, Cross River – born actress, Shan George cleared the air on her controversial lifestyle, scandals, failed marriages and many more.

shan-george2454
See excerpts below:
On how the scandals and controversies affect her:

As a human being, such things affect me. How we cope with it is what makes us different. For me, I see it as the hazard of the profession. Fortunately, my children are adults and can decipher truth from falsehood. Truth is, when people write false comments about you, those who are very close to you (your family) always know the truth. They are those who matter to me.
Once you have a clear conscience, then there is no fear.
On rumors of her third marriage:

There was no third marriage. Actually, it was a role I played in a movie. Entitled ‘Heartbreak’, it was shot late last year in Abuja. In the movie, I got married and the production pictures circulated in the media as part of publicity stunt for the movie. Then, some bloggers, who claim to be journalists, got hold of it and said I got married! It was just a movie wedding not a real one.
On if she regrets being an actress:

Yes. I do nurse regrets when people assume you are the roles you interpret in films. It is make-believe and if you don’t do it well, no producer comes for you again. The number two challenge of acting is the fact that people think you are what they see in movies. If you were living in a big house or you are a big Abuja babe and then when they see you in real life they want to see you in that wealthy appearance and opulence which is not in existence and then it has a psychological effect on those acting.
There was a time I was pelted with tomatoes at Alade market because some of those people believed I snatched my friend’s husband in a movie! That aside, some actors act as rich men/women in films and cannot extricate themselves from such roles in reality. They now live beyond their means and get involved in scandals because they are so desperate to meet with the standard. I am not a victim of that anyway.
On exposing skin for movie roles:

Yes, that was then. Now, I reject some scripts not because they would not pay me, (in fact, they are willing to pay double) but because of obscenity. Recently, I was invited to shoot a film in Ghana and I rejected the script because it exposes a lot of my body as a character in the movie. The producer was willing to pay me in millions but I refused.

“I am a woman of many parts” – Movie star Bukky Wright talks husband and kids in new interview

Bukky Wright is one movie star that has waded through testing scandals and controversies that could last her a lifetime, but she is unruffled.
In a recent interview with Tribune, she opened up on her pains and gains of being a celebrity, among other issues.
Bukki15
See excerpts below:
Sometime ago you were rated as one of the most controversial actresses in Nollywood; does controversy suit you and does it really get to you at all?
It does not get to me. It takes the grace of God and determination to stay in this kind of profession without going through controversies here and there, but I have never allowed controversies to get to me. I understand the fact that I have a price to pay for being a celebrity. But that does not mean I should start jumping over the place because I am a celebrity or because I want people to know I am still relevant. Those who say I am controversial don’t know me. I am different things to different people. I am sure you would have your own idea of who Bukky Wright is by the time this interactive session is over.
Some people believe that you left the industry because you were not being patronised anymore as a result of the controversies and age, which obviously was not on your side again. Did you see things that way?
I am a woman of many parts. When people don’t see your face in movies for a long time, they tend to conclude that you have left the industry or you are no more relevant. They will come up with different untrue stories just to drag you into their world. But they have forgotten that I am into other businesses that need my attention. A lot of people will also tell you that Bukky has been missing in action because they could not afford her fee.
Why should it cost much to have you in a movie?
To have Bukky Wright in a movie does not come cheap. I think I have been able to pay my dues over the years. Let me also tell you that It is not about being expensive. That is what a lot of people don’t understand. They might say it is expensive to have Bukky Wright in a movie, but at the same time, If I like your script and the people I am going to work with, trust me, It does not have to do with the money. I do a lot of work for people that I don’t even charge them a penny.  The script and the character I am playing might even allow me to downplay the payment. I really admire people with courage and good working relationship.
What is it about your name that at the mention of it, you hear all sorts of things?
I think you have to explain what you mean by all sorts of things.
I mean people always have something to say about your person?
If you are talking about people’s opinions, I will say everybody is entitled to his or her opinion. I have learnt to let people do the talking while I do my work. Apparently, my work brings the talks. I don’t have any problem with what people say. A lot of people who don’t know me, and they tend to link what they see in movies to my real person. These people have forgotten that in every movie that you see, I am playing a character; it is not me.

So, who is the real Bukky Wright?
The real Bukky Wright is God-fearing, down to earth, but very blunt to a large extent. The funny thing about this job is that people won’t complain if you act in a movie where you are asked to cry from the beginning to the end. It will surprise you to hear that some of my fans do tell me that when I am crying in movies, they also cry. What that tells you is that I am doing what I have to do rightly, interpreting my roles passionately.
There is this issue of lesbianism in the industry and some people have pointed the finger at you that you are the ring leader, but up till this moment, you have not come out to deny the allegation…
I will say that over the years, my skin has grown so thick that I don’t really care what people say about me. As far as I am happy within myself, I am okay. Nobody is going to make you thick except yourself. As long as I am happy, I don’t care whatever anybody says.
You haven’t answered my question?
The major price I have paid for being a celebrity is my privacy and it hurts so badly. I want to be able to sit down with the people that know me, walk on the street like any other person. I also want to stand by the roadside to buy roasted plantain, but this job won’t allow me to do that. I don’t have  to respond to everything people say about me.
But why do you think people could have fingered you in such a thing and not somebody else?
Let me tell you something, from my very first day in the industry, the first thing that crossed my mind was negative press. And, since the day I decided I want to grow, I said to myself, Bukky, it is not your life again.
Has this got to do with some of the roles you have played before?
People will always talk. They will say things that you don’t like. I think that one of the major problems  in the industry and why I have issues with people is because I don’t mix with them. Unfortunately, many people have misconstrued that. There are lots of people in this industry that would say, I have not seen Bukky Wright before. That is to tell you what I mean. Even If I am on location, I don’t talk. Those that we have known each other for a while, we sit down to gist and after that, we move on with our lives; it ends there.
But to some people, silence means consent?
I am not the kind of person that wants too many people on her side. I always love to be unpredictable. I have heard a lot of things like that. Same people will tell you Bukky Wright is a fighter; she likes to fight and harass people, but could you please ask them, how many people have they ever seen me fight before?  How many people could come out and say she met Bukky doing what they say I am doing or I have done?
How long are you going to remain silent about issues that are capable of ruining your career?
Everything in life has its pros and cons. If I don’t want people to talk about me, then I will have to become irrelevant. People are talking because I am relevant and they can relate with my person. Somebody that has never met or seen me before would talk as though we stay together under the same roof that is how far people could go just to talk.
So these things don’t make you feel sad?
As a human being, there are times that a false story will hit you, that you will feel so bad about it. I am human, but what will I do? I think I should thank God that they challenged God through me because the more they talk, the higher I go.
How does your husband react to some of these things?
Most of the time, he does not like seeing or hearing anything about that and he would want me to take an action that would serve as a deterrent to others, but I will say no.
Tell us more about him?
My husband is a perfect gentleman and I thank God for his life. In fact, some people will even use him to blackmail me when I am not taking their scripts. I have been able to carve that little bit of privacy for myself, husband and children. That is how far I can tell you about him.
Why do celebrities like to live fake lives?
I think it is crazy for any celebrity to paint the picture of what he or she cannot achieve five years from now. They call it showbiz and you have to show, but sometimes, you have to put that aside and be yourself. I am not the kind of woman that likes to do what others do. I love to be myself and those who know me would tell you that is Bukky for you.

You Don’t Have To Believe In God To Go To Heaven – Pope Francis

Pope Francisco writes to La Repubblica: "An open dialogue with non-believers"
An Italian journalist and founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, had asked Pope Francis in a letter if God forgives atheists/non-believers.
Responding to him, Pope Francis said the key issue for non-believers is that of  “obeying their consciences” when faced with choices of good or evil.
Pope Francis wrote:
You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don’t believe and who don’t seek the faith.
I start by saying – and this is the fundamental thing – that God’s mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.
Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience.”

Ferguson warns Moyes ahead of Champions League opener

Moyes-RVP-Chicharito
David Moyes has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson thinks Manchester United are in a tough Champions League group this year.
The Scot called up his predecessor after the draws were made and United found themselves in Group A, alongside Shakhtar Donestk, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Sociedad.
“After the draw, I phoned Sir Alex to talk about it and he said he thinks it’s one of the hardest draws United have ever had in the Champions League,” Moyes said.
“If that’s coming from him, then it must be tough.
“There are some great squads but I do think that on any given day we would fancy our chances. We hope to get those opportunities to prove that we are good enough to beat them.
“I’ve got to make sure we’re in the Champions League this year, next year and the years after, and competing to try to win it.

JTF arrests suspected oil theft syndicate, destroys 56 illegal refineries

Notice of the arrest is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Yenagoa by the JTF Media Coordinator, Lt.-Col. Onyema Nwachukwu.

Remove Tukur now, he’s doing PDP more harm than good – Aris, Adamawa SSG

Bamanga Tukur

Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Kobis Aris, has said unless Tukur is removed from office, it would for PDP, the acclaimed largest party in Africa to experience peace.
Aris, told Punch that Tuku’s utterances and actions had shown that he was incompetent of leading the party.
He said, “It will be difficult to bring peace into the party, with Tukur still there as national chairman. His utterances are unfriendly while his comments are antagonistic.
“Being a father and with his age, he ought to speak with some level of decorum. But instead of using all these as advantage, he is using them negatively. He is doing the party more harm than good.”

“We were a bit lucky” – Wenger admits after 3-1 win against Sunderland

Ozil hugs Giroud at Sunderland
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, has admitted that his team were probably lucky to have defeated Sunderland 3-1 at the Stadium of Light.
The Gunners took the lead in the 11th minute, after debutant Mesut Ozil slipped in a fine pass for Olivier Giroud to score. Sunderland equalised through Craig Gardener, before Aaron Ramsey grabbed a brace to settle matters.
However, Martin Atkinson disallowed a Jozy Altidore’s goal, shortly before Ramsey  wrapped up the win.
Wenger said: “We were a bit lucky at 2-1 maybe, but we found the mental resources to win.
“It could have been a foul for us as well because Altidore took Sagna as well but the referee blew before the goal, I was sure of that because I saw him.''

“I was one of the few that wore expensive brazilian hair before it became a craze” – Empress Njamah

In a recent interview with Punch, Actress Empress Njamah when asked to talk about her signature especially her colored hairstyle disclosed thus:
  • Empress is known for her hairstyle. How come you don’t make it simple when it comes to your hair?
A lot of people always talk about my hair before my name while trying to introduce Empress. It is not a logo. It is just that everybody has one thing they are used to and they like doing.
Over the years, I was one of the few that started wearing expensive Brazilian hair before it became a craze. I like to wear very full hair. Most times, it takes two people to make my hair. I wear what three or four people can wear. I am a hair person. Sometimes you make your passion your profession. I sell human hair but I started wearing it long before I started selling them. For a lady, your hair should stand out.
  • You also wear different colours of hair extensions…
I am adventurous when it comes to hairstyles. I have worn all the hair colours that anybody can think of but I wear them in a subtle manner, as such, you can’t fault the hair.
I do not like people who criticise what they do not have the courage to do. Most people want to be adventurous.
If you listen to what people have to say, I think you will go the wrong way when it comes to fashion. I am very colourful in all ramifications. I like bright things. It takes a lot for me to wear a black outfit for a burial ceremony. I try to put a colour to it. Fashion is a thing of the mind

I can have sex for 24 hours – Ken Okonkwo boasts

Ken OkonkwoUnknown to many, Nollywood actor-cum-lawyer, Keneth Okonkwo is a trained and an ordained evangelist with over a decade experience in God’s vineyard.
Ken has no doubt proven himself as a force to reckon with in the highly competitive movie industry, globally known as Nollywood with over 100 flicks to his credit.
Aside his passion for acting and evangelism, Ken is also a ladies man who started enjoying their companies at a very tender age, “I started kissing at a very tender age because it was part of the things they were doing to me,” he told Entertainment Express during an interview in Asaba, Delta State.
In fact, the hunk said he could even ‘go in’ with a lady for 24 hours non-stop, an action he said has been attracting to ladies him.
Hear him, “I am strong sexually for 24 hours, my wife knows that. If I come back and my face is not bright, she will come and play with me. I never knew God was working out something for me, each I time I have an affair with any lady, she goes out to tell her friend, that her friend will end up developing interest for me.
So when I married my wife, I told her if she knows what is best for her she should not tell any of her pals.
“I loved kissing, maybe that is why my lips are red like this. They taught me how to be with women, I just love what I was feeling at that time. They would give me their body to play with, when they place my hand anywhere I will just feel it, so I grew up having a very touching and funny upbringing. I became very passionate relating with them very passionately, till today, when I am sleeping with a lady, she has to come before me. I enjoy sex more when they have enjoyed theirs; I was free living with them,” he said.
When asked of his alleged romance with Nollywood thespian and mother of one, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Okonkwo said, “It is so funny to hear this, and do you know why? Before Mercy was born or should I say when she was still in the kindergarten level in school, I had already started kissing ladies in movies and I have been acting natural with ladies. So she met me still doing it. Why would her own be different? Okay, let me tell you why her own is different; it is simply because she is exceptionally different and talented as an actress, so when she matches her good skills with my own natural skills, people would have no choice than to enjoy it. They would end up saying we are so natural together, are you sure they don’t have anything in common?
Mercy is like a younger sister to me. We are so very close. I am so close to her and her husband. He is like a very good brother of mine. Like I told you, it is my nature to be so confidential with any lady I have something with on earth, so it makes me laugh each time anybody talks about Mercy and myself in any way, except that we are professional colleagues,” he added

FRSC threatens to prosecute police chief over alleged assault

The FRSC says it will prosecute a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi Police Command for allegedly assaulting its officers.
Mr Chika Nwaka, the FRSC Enugu Zonal Commander, said this in Abakaliki on Saturday during a public sensitisation rally held on the use of Speed Limit Devices.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police chief, DCP Istifanus Shettima, and some officers allegedly assaulted two FRSC officials who were on duty on the Enugu-Abakaliki expressway on Thursday.
Nwaka vowed that the FRSC would pursue the case to a logical conclusion, alleging that Shettima was fond of assaulting FRSC officials.
“This has been a regular occurrence and we are determined to make this incident the last.
“It is absurd for him (Shettima) to allege that the FRSC does not have the constitutional right to operate within the town; that was why he assaulted our officers,” he said.
Nwaka, however, said that FRSC officials should be constitutionally empowered to carry arms, as it would protect them from incessant assaults.
“Lesser security outfits such as vigilante groups carry guns; so, I feel it is high time FRSC officials were empowered to carry arms,” he said.
Mr Onyinyechi Chukwu, one of the assaulted FRSC officers, said that he was assaulted by Shettima while controlling traffic at the Presco Junction axis of the road.
“I did not cause any accident; he just beckoned on me and said that I should be in the office or along the highway and not at the junction.
“When I tried to defend my posting there, he came down from his vehicle and slapped me.
“His men swooped on me and they wanted to put me inside the boot of their vehicle but I resisted, while my fellow officers rushed to the scene,” he said.
Reacting, DSP Sylvester Igbo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, said that Shettima was visiting policemen posted to various duty posts along the express road.
“One FRSC officer, who was directing traffic, allowed vehicles from different directions to pass at the same time and this made a tricycle and motorcycle to collide.
“The DCP, who was present at the location with his personnel, directed the FRSC official to accompany the victims of the accident to the Police Motor Traffic Division to give statements, and for the injured ones to receive treatment.
“The FRSC officer refused and hauled abuses at the DCP and subsequently assaulted him,” Igbo
added. (NAN)
